Course Description

Have a completed novel you’re ready to shop around? In this four-week course, learn the ins and outs of querying agents and beyond. You’ll begin by writing your author Mission Statement: identifying and refining goals for your writing career. You’ll work on loglines, and on one-paragraph, two-paragraph and one-page descriptions of your book. These four elements function as your arsenal, not only for query letters, but also for speaking and writing about your book in nearly every situation. We’ll also cover how to research everything -- from agents to editors to publicists to conferences. You’ll not only learn to craft compelling query letters, but also to present yourself and your work to agents in-person and on social media. We’ll do some role-playing in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Taught by author Chrysler Szarlan. PREREQUISITES: A complete, or nearly complete, fiction manuscript. Classes are two hours long each week for four weeks (except for holidays). Students may miss one class throughout the course. All sales final. No refunds.
